16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. – John 3:16-17 NIV
Roughly 1,988 years ago (2020 marks the years since Jesus’s birth) the greatest event in all of history occurred. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross and later rose from the dead for the atonement of our sins. Through His blood we are wiped clean. Our sins no longer condemn us. Our salvation is made possible. For all that believe in Him, we are saved (Romans 10:9).
He left the perfectness and comfort of heaven to live as a man, fully human and fully God. He came not to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. He faced heartbreak, temptation, judgments, persecution, betrayal, humiliation, and a brutal death nailed to a cross. He did it all for us. “Greater love has no one but this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (Jesus, John 15:13). In a true act of love, the perfect and innocent Son of God suffered and sacrificed His life for us. So that we are no longer bound by our sins but born again through Him, and like Him will be resurrected from death into eternal life.
